Considering what graphics engine the ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS74 has, I can say it’s good for gaming. The engine in question is GeForce GTX980M, a state-of-the-art mobile graphics card with a whopping 8GB GDDR5 memory. You won’t see FPS drop, even on heavier games with plenty of eye candy on. For example, if you fire up GTA 5 or Fallout 4 on maxed out settings and Full HD, frame rates are going to be above 50.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS74 doesn’t lack processing power: the processor is Intel Core i7-6700HQ, a quad-core beast from the 6th generation giving you 2.6GHz clock frequency with up to 3.5GHz turbo. It’s truly one of the fastest laptop chips with CPU Mark (a trusted benchmark) score of ~8000. Memory section is great as well, two 8GB DDR4 modules are installed, totaling at 16GB RAM. There will be no problems with any kind of software I can think of.

For some, the unfortunate thing with notebooks is the storage solution, but in this ASUS it’s not an issue. There are two drives installed: an old-school 1TB 7200RPM hard drive and a 256GB solid-state drive attached to M.2 SATA 3 slot. You’ll get best of the both worlds: plenty of storage and fast transfer rates.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS74 comes with a host of useful ports. Starting with USB, there are three USB 3.0 connectors and one USB 3.1 Type C (Gen 2) – the latter can be used with many standards (using adapters), like HDMI or DisplayPort. That said, there are still dedicated video outputs for HDMI and miniDP on this laptop.

The networking side consists of Gigabit RJ-45 port and 802.11ac WiFi card. Bluetooth 4.0 is supported, too.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS74 has a high-quality 15.6-inches Full HD display, with IPS being the panel type. Viewing angles are up to 160 degrees. The screen features anti-glare coating but no touch support. As somebody said, it’s also good for non-gaming use, such as photo editing due to accurate colors and sharp image. A 1.2MP webcam is embedded in the top bezel.

Battery life is rarely a strong point with gaming laptops, however on this unit (4-cell battery) it’s reported to be around 5 hours on lightweight use. That’s much more than usually, most other gaming notebooks have ~3 hours operating time before the battery needs a recharge.

ASUS ROG STRIX GL502VY-DS74 is far from a cheap laptop, but you’ll understand the price when you consider what it includes. The GeForce GTX980M graphics card is a top-of-the-line choice and it will plow through old and new games like nobody’s business. The CPU is fast, RAM plenty (and new DDR4 type) and storage features both SSD and hard drive. Even battery life is quite good, around 5 hours when web surfing, so the laptop is a real killer. If you got the dough and want only the best, going for this ASUS would make great sense.

ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02, there’s one big difference from your average laptop: this one runs on the Google’s Chrome operating system! It’s a bit different from Windows, and also such Chromebooks are very cheap… Let me tell you more about this ASUS’s good and bad sides below!

Networking is handled by an excellent 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 adapter. No RJ-45 port is present, but USB to RJ-45 adapter works.

If you want to enhance ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02 with peripherals you can do that; there are two USB 3.0 ports available. However, bear in mind that not all USB devices are supported by the Chrome OS. For example, USB printing doesn’t currently work. Things like USB hard drives or DVD drives (the latter with read-only mode) can be connected. There’s also HDMI-output in the laptop, you can connect an extra monitor to that.

SD/SDHC card reader (but no optical drive!) is available which you can use to expand the local storage or load your favorite photos or other media.

The 11.6 inches matte screen with 1366×768 resolution should be decent enough for the lightweight use of this system. HD-level webcam is embedded on top of the display.

ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02 contains a storage drive which has only 16GB size. How are you going to fit your data there? Most likely you won’t, so you’ll need to get an external hard drive (or use a memory card). So Chromebook is definitely not good if you’re looking for a file storage solution.

Another thing to keep in mind, you can not just install programs made to run on Windows here (pretty much everything happens online, using Internet versions of programs like Google Docs). If you really wanted to use Windows executables, you’d need remote control software or some kind of emulator. The same goes for games – also the hardware is a limitation for gaming, the Celeron processor with integrated graphics wouldn’t run demanding games anyway.

ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02 is like any Chrome-powered system: darn affordable, lightweight and low performance. Any thing you want to do online (save installable games) you can do here; for example editing documents, watching videos or just browsing the web works. The notebook is also easy to take on your travels, and it certainly won’t put a strain on your wallet. It sounds cool for sure, but before judging this notebook, let’s examine it more…

Performance is so-so – run a web browser, YouTube or text editor and you will have no problem. But something like Photoshop would be too much. Compared to other processor types, it’s in the same category than newer Intel Celeron processors. The 4GB memory (maxed out) is alright, but the CPU is indeed sort of a bottleneck here.

It is said that ASUS T102HA-D4-GR has a 128GB solid-state drive, but in reality it’s a 128GB eMMC, embedded MultiMediaCard. It’s like a stripped-down version of SSD, not as fast or durable as one. It’s bit sad, but you can’t expect to get all the best components for this price.

There aren’t too many ports on this small device, but still something to get you started. One USB 3.0 and one microUSB are available, although the latter is used for charging. You’re able to hook up another monitor to this thanks to the microHDMI port. Networking happens with the 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth 4.1 adapter, no RJ-45 port here.

Obviously, this compact unit doesn’t sport a DVD burner, but microSD card slot is available. It eats cards from digital cameras etc.

Some reports are available on the battery life, most stating six or seven hours on a single charge.

The absolute last thing you’d want to get ASUS T102HA-D4-GR for is gaming. It has integrated graphics engine called Intel HD (Cherry Trail architecture) which, even among the integrated units, is slow. Most new games, including GTA 5 and Battlefield 4, are out of your reach. But if it’s very simple title you like to play, you’re good – for example, World of Warcraft on low settings runs here alright.

If a person cares more about portability, compact size and low price than pure performance, a computer like ASUS T102HA-D4-GR should be money well spent. You need not worry about buying tablet because it’s already included here, but keep in mind the performance isn’t top notch – everyday computing is good, power user software or god forbid games are not. If you accept this division, going for the ASUS is worth it.

The price tag is enormous, but also the spec list is sweet: latest 7th generation Core i7 processor, huge SSD and plenty of RAM. But do these fast components justify the price, or is there something else to take into consideration…?

Intel released a new set of processors in the late Summer 2016, the 7th generation to be exact. One of those, the Intel Core i7-7500U is the heart of this system. I haven’t seen benchmarks about it yet, but it’s naturally expected to be faster than its predecessor, the Core i7-6500U. The new processor has two cores, and 2.7GHz base speed with 3.5GHz turbo boost. It will run programs lightweight and heavy without issues, throw a image or video editor at it and you’ll see.

Other elements in the engine room are pristine too. There is 16GB memory included, surely enough for the most demanding of users, and 512GB solid-state drive attached to M.2 PCIe (NVMe) slot. Such a drive has pretty good storage and believe me, it’s going to be very, very fast. The system will boot in like 3 seconds.

The glossy 12.5″ Full HD IPS non-touch display is beautiful to look at, even a professional would not find it reprehensible. The screen is also darn slim, the thickness is just 7.6mm. That contributes to the weight of this unit, just 2.1 pounds. It’s a breeze to carry with you. The top of the display includes a basic level webcam.

The 40WHrs 6-cell battery is given up to 9 hours operating time in the ad copy, however I would say 7-8 hours is your best bet. It’s still great, lasting for a whole day. The battery is integrated, so replacing it will be a pain in the ass.

The selection of ports in ASUS UX390UA-XH74-BL isn’t that great, there’s just no space for many connections in this compact frame. There is one USB 3.1 Type-C port for all your peripherals and external monitor (yep, no dedicated video output here). The 802.11ac WiFi & Bluetooth 4.0 card allows for network access.

As you can guess, the laptop doesn’t have an optical drive. If you need discs, get external drive, it will take the one USB port on this unit.

The only bad thing I can think of is the gaming performance. Every other thing about ASUS UX390UA-XH74-BL is great, but the graphics card is just integrated (the Intel HD 620). That is of course understandable given the small size and weight, but anyway you’re not going to enjoy Full HD gaming on this rig. Older ones like WoW and League of Legends run no problem, and you can try some newer games such as GTA 5 on low to medium settings.

ASUS UX390UA-XH74-BL surely is everything a power user or professional needs. First, it’s darn fast: there is absolutely nothing the Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and SSD couldn’t do software-wise. Second, it has a sweet 12.5 inches Full HD display, the screen and the whole system weighing just 2.1 pounds. Only question is the price – if you have the money, and want (and need!) only the best, then giving a shot for this ASUS is an excellent choice.

The Acer Aspire S 13 differentiates itself from the sea of silver slabs with an eye-catch black (or white) nanoimprint cover. The textured display case has vertical striations that create a sharp pinstripe design complete with an “acer” logo on the middle left side. A silver metallic strip with Aspiser S engraved on it runs between the two the hinges contrasting nicely against the black (or white) cover.

To test battery life, we used Futuremark’s PowerMark benchmark in balanced mode. The test consists of a combination of automated web browsing, word processing, gaming and video playback workloads. The test is far more strenuous than typical web browsing alone, measuring the machine under a litany of scenarios to better simulate high-stress usage. With the test being far more demanding the scores are understandably lower than what you’ll experience just checking Facebook or watching Netflix.

In our tests the Acer Aspire S 13 ran for 3 hours and 41 minutes before shutting down. This aligns the device pretty closely with competing devices such as the Dell XPS 13 which ran for . 3 hours and 43 minutes. However, it’s worth mentioning that the unit we tested was equipped with QHD display, a model with a less power intensive FHD display would beat out the Aspire S. Considering that powermark is a bit more strenuous than standard use you can expect last over the course of a full work day.

The Acer Aspire S 13 is an excellent Ultrabook that offers a great level of value for its sub $1,000 price point. Equipped with competitive specs including a sixth generation Intel Core i5 CPU and a lightning fast 256GB SSD the laptop is perfect for productivity. Not to mention it also looks fantastic. The 13-inch non-imprinted cover is well built and offers a unique aesthetic that stands out among the homogeneous collection of MacBook clones on the market.

Now if you’re looking for a top of the line Ultrabook, that’s where the Acer Aspire S 13 becomes a little less attractive. For the price, the display is excellent, but there isn’t a QHD resolution and the color contrast isn’t as rich as some of the more expensive devices on the market, such as the Dell XPS 13. The scaling options also aren’t as robust as some of the Ultrabooks on the market. So if you’re looking for top of the line performance, the most expensive model of the S13 is going to fall well short of something like Lenovo’s X1 Carbon or the MacBook Pro, granted it will also cost less money.

Still, this Acer Aspire Ultrabook does a phenomenal job of hitting that sweet spot between price and performance. With its design and performance it’s a tough act to beat at its current price point.

Although the Acer Predator 17 X looks like an attractive 17-inch gaming powerhouse, the exterior doesn’t offer much in the way of innovative design. In truth, if you place black electrical tape over the logo the average PC gamer might not be able to identify the Predator 17 X next to its competitors from Alienware, Asus, MSI and Lenovo.

The back side of the screen lid showcases a silver Predator logo which lights up red when the notebook is powered on. The entire plastic chassis is covered in a rubberized soft touch paint similar to the Lenovo Thinkpad line of business notebooks or previous generations of the Asus ROG gaming notebooks. The screen hinge is firm enough to hold the heavy screen in position but loose enough that you can open the screen lid with one hand. The entire chassis feels solid with no obvious flex or plastic creaking under pressure.

The external dimensions of the Predator 17 X measure in at 16.65 x 12.66 x 1.77 inches and the notebook (minus the massive power adapter) weighs in at 10.03 pounds. That means this Acer gaming notebook weighs almost a full two pounds more than competitors like the Alienware 17 and the MSI GT72 Dragon. The access panel on the bottom side of the chassis allows you two swap out the system RAM, M.2 SATA SSDs and the 2.5-inch HDD.

As with most 17-inch gaming rigs the Acer Predator 17 X delivers a wide array of ports and connectors. The left side of the chassis holds the AC power jack, two USB 3.0 ports, a dedicated microphone jack, a dedicated headphone jack and the SD card reader. The right side of the notebook features a single USB Type-C port, two more USB 3.0 ports, a full-size HDMI port, a full-size DisplayPort, Ethernet and a Kensington lock slot. Acer decided not to include an optical drive despite the fact that engineers probably could have made a DVD or Blu-Ray drive fit.

When it comes to battery life the Acer Predator 17 X is something of a mixed bag. At first glance the battery life from this Acer falls short of most modern gaming notebooks. However, this is due in no small part to the 4K display. All those extra pixels require power, which means the battery inside our Acer Predator 17 X review unit drains much faster than it would if the notebook used a FHD screen with just 1920 x 1080 pixels. The PowerMark benchmark below shows battery life after a non-stop loop of automated tasks designed to simulate web browsing, office productivity, video streaming and gaming. Users should be able to get even better battery life if they aren’t actively gaming or streaming video on battery power.

Overall the Acer Predator 17 X is an impressive gaming rig that has plenty to offer people interested in VR games. Sure, this isn’t a budget gaming PC, but there are many notebooks in the same $2,500-$3,000 price range that can’t power the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. If you’re serious about using a notebook with a VR headset then this is one of the most affordable VR-ready gaming notebooks you’ll find this holiday season.

At the time of this writing the Predator 17 X comes in two main configurations (with more configurations coming to stores by Christmas). Both of the current configurations come with the Intel Core i7-6820HK CPU, desktop Nvidia GTX 980 graphics, a 1TB 7200 RPM storage drive and 32GB of system RAM. The 4K system we reviewed here comes with a single 512GB SSD as the main boot drive and is priced at $3,200. The full-HD version of the Predator 17X comes with a 1080p display and two 256GB SSDs in RAID 0 as the boot drive for $2,800. All 17 X laptops come with a two-year warranty.

We love the 4K display in our Acer Predator 17 X review unit, but if you don’t care about Ultra-HD resolutions and just want a VR-ready notebook then the 1080p configuration will save you $400 and perform just as well. Either way, this is one of the best solutions for VR gamers in 2016.

If you’re a laptop gamer you know what you must have: money. Because tools of the trade cost a lot. It’s not a regular notebook you’re looking for, rather it’s a laptop with strong graphics card and high price that would rock your world. In this Acer Predator 17 G9-791-735A, you will find one of the better notebook graphics engines. The name is GeForce GTX970M, a dedicated mobile-friendly graphics card with 3GB GDDR5 memory. It’s a 2014 release and manages to get more than 4100 points in G3D Mark – for a comparison, integrated graphics engines get ca. 500 points. You can run all games at very high details and 1080p without the fear of FPS dropping, for example GTA 5 would give more than 40FPS and Battlefield 4 +50 frames per second.

For starters, Acer Predator 17 G9-791-735A features a nice storage combo. There are two kinds of drives installed: a 7200RPM SATA hard drive with 1TB storage, and a smaller 128GB solid-state drive. This kind of set-up is ideal for most people since there’s space for big files and the frequently accessed ones which need fast loading times. Windows 10 Home is located on the SSD.

The laptop’s RAM is also state-of-the-art. By default, it has 16GB DDR4 memory installed (two 8GB modules), but you can upgrade that to a whopping 64GB with four 16GB modules. But I don’t think many people would need to do that as sixteen gigabytes is enough for heavy uses, and that includes gaming too.

Processor in this Acer is not any worse, it’s the new(ish) high-end Intel Core i7-6700HQ with four cores and 2.6GHz – 3.5GHz clock speed (depending whether turbo is activated). Expect it to run your games and programs smooth, the CPU Mark is over 8000 which not many processors of today can reach.

Acer Predator 17 G9-791-735A is full of connectors letting you to plug in the most exotic devices. For example, there are four full-size USB 3.0 ports but also a multi-use USB 3.1 Type C port. The connections you can use for video include DisplayPort and HDMI-out.

Naturally, a DVD burner is included, meaning you can install games and upload stuff from discs. That’s also possible through memory cards since there is an SD card slot installed too.

Networking options, as you might expect, are good: a 802.11ac 2×2 dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 adapter, also a 1000Mbps RJ-45 port for cable.

The computer sports a webcam, it support 1280×720 video resolution which should be sufficient for most.

So what about the display? It’s a 17.3″ screen with 1920×1080 maximum resolution. People have said it’s very decent which I can believe, the panel type for example is IPS which outputs accurate colors and doesn’t have problem with viewing angles (close to 180 degree). G-Sync is supported, but only to an external display you hook up to the DisplayPort. Touch is not available here.

It’s a heavy-duty 8-cell battery you will find inside, but the components on this laptop will drain it rather quickly. Getting two hours under heavy use is your best bet, and around four when just surfing the web. The battery is a so-called internal one, so you’ll need tools and removal of the laptop bottom to access it.

Well, what couldn’t such a laptop do for a player? No matter what game you throw at it, the system will handle it at ultra settings and 1080p resolution. Needless to say, also any piece of software will work without problems. The only “problem” is the price: Acer Predator 17 G9-791-735A costs a lot, but if you have the determination (= heavyweight gaming) and the money, it should offer good value to you.

Obviously, there aren’t too fast components because the price is so low; Intel Celeron and 2GB RAM are indeed not known for their great performance. But it’s not all the time people need a powerful computer – sometimes a simple system like this Cloudbook is a perfect choice. What those times are, I’ll tell you more below.

Don’t keep your expectations too high and you should be alright. The Intel Celeron N3050 (1.6GHz with 2.2GHz turbo, dual core) is the absolute lackluster processor, reaching only 800 CPU Mark grade – even mainline i3s get much more, around 2500-3000 these days. You don’t need anything fancier for browsing the web or listening some videos off YouTube, but multitasking or programs with higher system requirements are not a good fit for this computer.

The system memory follows this same trend. Acer Aspire One (AO1-431-C7F9) has 2GB DDR3L type memory installed onboard. That can’t be upgraded so you’ll have to live with the two gigabytes. It’s the real minimum these days, with lightweight stuff lagging shouldn’t occur but don’t even try those beefier programs. The 64GB storage drive is falsely advertised as a solid-state drive while in reality it’s embedded MultiMediaCard, a poor man’s version of SSD.

Acer Aspire One (AO1-431-C7F9) is good for only the most simplest types of games. That includes all browser games and some installable titles such as Minecraft. As there’s nothing but a processor-integrated Intel HD Graphics (Braswell based) chip, all the newer games are really out of question. Games like GTA 5, The Witcher 3 or Battlefield 4 are unplayable here. The said Minecraft and perhaps League of Legends work, but only if you keep settings and resolution at bay.

The anti-glare screen is basic, I don’t see anything fancy about it. The size is 14 inches and resolution of course 1366×768. It supports no touch. The display does its job fine for typical everyday programs, obviously a professional would do himself a favor choosing a screen of higher quality.

There are indeed a couple of ports you can use to enhance your Acer Aspire One (AO1-431-C7F9). Two USB ports are found on the system, one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0. And if you want an extra display like HDTV you’re welcome to use the HDMI-out. LAN (RJ-45) port isn’t available, but you can use the excellent AC standard WiFi + Bluetooth card to get Internet access.

Also DVD drive is missing, they rarely include one in this small units. Luckily nothing is stopping you from getting an external drive. There’s also SD card slot which you might learn to use after a while; it’s a very handy way to transfer data once you have files on memory cards.

The laptop sports a webcam but its resolution is only 640×480, you’re not going to film high quality videos with that but occasional video chatting is surely possible.

Like somebody mentioned in the comments, Acer Aspire One (AO1-431-C7F9) is great laptop to carry around. The weight is just 3.5 pounds, somewhat less than 15 inchers weighing 5+ pounds. Also the 3-cell battery will last long, people were talking about 8 hours, a full day indeed.

No backlit keyboard is here, such fancy features are left for pricier models.

Samsung NP900X3L-K06US is more than enough for a casual user, it’s more of a power user laptop. It’s integrated onboard to save some space, but the downside is, you can not upgrade it. This should not however be a problem since 8GB is enough for 99.9% of users – I don’t know anybody that would get a visible performance boost from more.

Storage is just what you could expect from this kind of machine, a 256GB solid-state drive hooked to M.2 interface. There are no free slots for extra drives, but quarter terabyte SSD should get you going. It will boot up Windows in about 6 seconds to desktop, also opening programs such as browser and MS Office will happen in a blink of an eye (as opposed to slower platter-based hard drives).

Gaming can be a bit tricky on Samsung NP900X3L-K06US. It has no dedicated graphics card, there’s just no space for one in such a small system. Instead, the notebook relies on integrated Intel HD 520 with which the division is this: you can play many games, but settings need to be turned low. For example, you can fire up GTA 5 and get a decent 30FPS, but that will only happen if settings are normal (meaning the lowest in that game) and resolution 1366×768. Another example, Counter-Strike: Go would get higher frame rates even if you upped the eye candy.

Samsung NP900X3L-K06US surely accepts a device or two. The set of connections is of course limited, after all this is a small ultrabook with not much space for ports. To begin with, there are two USB ports all in all (both 3.0), so select wisely if you have many peripherals or get USB hub.

Video outputs include mini VGA and Micro HDMI so many kinds of monitors are supported, just remember to get a proper cable between (one that works with the laptop’s micro HDMI, not standard HDMI).

For audio you will get the microphone/headphones port.

Not every ultrabook contains RJ-45 port, but this notebook does. Don’t worry though, there is also a nice 802.11ac Wireless LAN adapter that supports Bluetooth 4.1.

If you want to use discs you will need to use an external optical drive as there is no built-in DVD burner here. SD card slot is available.

Samsung NP900X3L-K06US has a small if high-quality anti-glare display. The diagonal is 13.3 inches and maximum resolution 1920×1080 – the perfect combination for compact but high screen estate use. Touch is not supported. Brightness is 400 nits, a good amount for both indoor and outdoor use.

The 2-cell 30Wh battery is advertised to last for 10 hours, in reality people have been reporting 8 hours (web browsing) which is very decent for an ultrabook.

The notebook includes a 720p webcam, you can have a Skype chat or shoot a YouTube video with that.

The keyboard features backlight.

Operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Samsung NP900X3L-K06US would be a good choice for power users who really appreciate all the fine details, such as Full HD resolution and solid-state drive, in their laptops. This thing won’t run slow no matter what software you use, although gaming is still limited due to integrated graphics card. You can also call this a true ultrabook because of the 13″ screen, in addition the weight is very low 1.9 pounds – so on-the-go people will find this Samsung useful as well. It’s not a touch display and indeed the screen doesn’t rotate past ~180 degrees, so this is not a 2-in-1 device. A webcam is installed in the top bezel.

8GB DDR3 memory is installed, in my opinion it suffices for casual and power users alike. Unfortunately I couldn’t find information whether it can be upgraded or not.

There have been no user reports on the operating time, but specs state Samsung NP500R5L-M03US has 43Wh Li-Ion battery. You’ll get around 6 hours (web surfing or other lightweight work) with similar power sources on this kind of components.

USB ports selection isn’t anything special, just two USB 2.0 and only one faster USB 3.0. Video outputs include HDMI and VGA, you can hook up an external monitor to them. In addition to the 802.11ac dual-band WiFi & Bluetooth 4.1 adapter, also Gigabit RJ-45 port is available for networking.

Bear in mind this unit doesn’t have an optical drive! You need to get external DVD burner if discs are important for you. However, 3-in-1 media card reader is included.

In many regards Samsung NP500R5L-M03US is fast but sadly, when it comes to graphics, the laptop lacks real performance. It doesn’t come with dedicated graphics but only Intel HD 520 which is integrated on the i7 processor. You need to be careful with games as many will require low settings to run, for example GTA 5 at ~30FPS. Still, easier titles like Team Fortress or Minecraft will run smooth no matter the settings.

I would say Samsung NP500R5L-M03US is a decent choice for the money. It’s quite a powerhouse with the Core i7 processor, and the said SSD will make this thing fly compared to older, hard drive ridden laptops. And as expected for the price, the screen supports Full HD, so movie freaks and purists will have good times with their home entertainment stuff. The storage drive is excellent. It’s a 256GB solid-state drive, far more durable and faster than a regular hard drive with spinning disk. You will be left with around 250GB space for your files after the Windows 10 Home installation.

The touch display is of high-quality, sporting 13.3 inches diagonal with QHD+ (3200×1800) resolution. That’s excellent for techies and digital artists who require a huge screen estate, however an average user might be happier with another resolution, as with 3200×1800 icons and text will look darn small. IPS is the panel type, so expect wide (almost 180 degree) viewing angles. Keep in mind the screen turns full 360 degrees but doesn’t detach from the keyboard part. The webcam supports 720p video resolution.

8GB is the system memory in Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (80HE0109CF), the type is DDR3 low voltage. It’s as good as it gets, just remember you can not upgrade it.

The computer doesn’t include optical drive, it has no space for one. You can however use an external optical drive. The SD/MMC card reader might be an useful feature as well.

The number of USB ports is three of which two are USB 3.0. One of the ports is used for charging. The sole video output is micro-HDMI, you can attach an external display to that.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (80HE0109CF) would be quite a bad computer for gaming. Not a surprise, there is no dedicated graphics in such a convertible unit, but an integrated Intel HD 5300 chip. It’s in the same category than the (in)famous Intel HD 4000, so don’t expect a lot. For example, GTA 5 would be close to unplayable, with FPS less than 20 even on lowest settings. On the other hand, less-demanding ones like Diablo 3 and CS: Go will run fine, especially if you use low to medium settings.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (80HE0109CF) is one of the faster convertible laptops – it acts as a decent notebook, but when the time comes, you just flip the screen and it becomes a powerful tablet. I suppose that every kind of software will run here smooth and clean, but many games will be problematic due to integrated graphics. The selection of ports is not fantastic but sufficient for general use. Solid-state drive is a plus. So, if a snappy 2-in-1 laptop is what you’ve been looking for, getting this unit would be a reasonable thing to do.

A benchmark tests give it a favorable score, for example CPU Mark’s ~4800 points. It’s up for a task lightweight or heavy, ranging from simple web browsing to exotic stuff like programming or multimedia editing. Also the 8GB DDR4 RAM is sufficient for many things. Half of it soldered on board, and half on a DIMM stick. You can upgrade the 4GB stick to a 8GB one, so the maximum memory is 12GB.

And talking about the display, it should be a high-quality one: Full HD resolution support and 250-nits brightness (appears rather bright if you ask me). Also, the panel type is professional-grade IPS – it will give you good viewing angles, almost 180 degrees (side to side). The screen does not support touch. There’s a webcam on top, it has 720p video resolution.

A 256GB M.2 solid-state drive is offered for storage; it ensures fast startup times for the system and programs. If you want more space for your files, you can use an external hard drive.

Lenovo ThinkPad T460s 20F9003CUS features two 3-cell batteries (23Wh and 26Wh), you should get 7 hours battery life on those when web surfing with moderate screen brightness. Sadly it looks like the batteries are internal, so replacing them will take a lot of effort (like disassembling the laptop).

The ports include three USB 3.0 connectors, and one miniDP and HDMI-out for hooking up a monitor.

There are two ways for networking, the Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 port or the M.2 WiFi adapter (802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.1 support).

Pretty much the only bigger disadvantage with Lenovo ThinkPad T460s 20F9003CUS is gaming performance. The graphics are handled by an integrated & quite slow Intel HD 520 chip. Especially when it’s such an expensive notebook a better graphics card would’ve been expected. Well, all hope is not lost, you can play games but expect lower FPS and less eye candy on. For example, you’d get around 30 FPS with GTA 5 played on medium settings and around 60 FPS with CS: GO on high settings.

Lenovo ThinkPad T460s 20F9003CUS is a beast for software; there is nothing the Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and a solid-state drive couldn’t do for you. Throw a Photoshop or virtualization software at this rig and it will be handled all smooth. It’s also a lightweight model so people looking for a traveling companion might like this Lenovo. Worse thing is the gaming side; a hardcore player would find the laptop disappointing (however for casual gamer it’s alright). So if this kind of package interests you, do take a closer look at it!

This Lenovo Ideapad 510 (80SV0056US) enjoys from the latest generation of Intel processors – the seventh, dual-core Kaby Lake. The Core i7-7500U is a late 2016 release, bringing slightly better clock speeds (2.7 and 3.5GHz turbo) than the older i7-6500U (2.5GHz and 3.1GHz). The CPU Mark score is considerably better in the new model, 5300 vs 4300 points. Thus, a great processor performance can be expected on this Lenovo model.

A solid-state drive is always a nice thing to have, in this computer it’s a 256GB SSD. I don’t see any alarming reason to upgrade it, perhaps only if you want more space should you replace it with a 512GB model.

8GB DDR4 2133MHz memory is installed. The configuration is 4GB soldered on the mainboard, and another 4GB installed on a stick. By upgrading that stick to 8GB you can get 12GB total memory which is the maximum.

I can’t say this Lenovo works great for gaming due to integrated graphics, the Intel HD 620. But it’s not horrible either if you accept minimum settings and average FPS on newer games. Examples include GTA 5 on low settings getting 25-30 frames per second and Battlefield 4 around 40 frames on similar set-up.

A typical set of connections is offered by Lenovo Ideapad 510 (80SV0056US). At your disposal are one USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports for your favorite peripherals. And for an external monitor there are two connectors to choose from: VGA and HDMI-out.

The battery is a slight disadvantage. It’s a 39Whr unit, giving just 3-4 hours web surfing on a single charge. Moreover, it’s integrated on the laptop, so you can only remove it by disassembling the notebook bottom.

Laptops like Lenovo Ideapad 510 (80SV0056US) are ideal for people who appreciate beautiful displays and high-end performance, and can more importantly put these features to good use. This would most likely include power users and artists working in digital field like images. Some things are less favorable, such as integrated battery with short operating time. With the Intel Core i7-2620M processor and AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics our EliteBook delivered reasonably good battery life from the 6-cell (62 WHr) Li-Ion battery but it wasn’t as impressive as we expected. In our battery tests with the screen brightness set to 70%, wireless active, and Windows 7 set to the Balanced profile the system stayed on for 5 hours and 28 minutes. This is still plenty of time to watch a movie or two in while traveling with the screen set to a conservative backlight level, but if you are looking for jaw-dropping battery life figures you need to consider the optional 9-cell (100 WHr) Li-Ion battery from HP.

The HP EliteBook 8560p is a solid update to the EliteBook line of business laptops. The combination of powerful Intel Sandy Bridge processors, a stylish-yet-durable design, and decent battery life make for a very well-balanced business notebook.

My biggest complaints may or may not be a concern for most potential EliteBook buyers. The optional AMD Radeon 6470M graphics is good, but not particularly remarkable when you consider the $1,499 price tag. Given that this is an EliteBook it’s reasonable for customers to assume this notebook offers extremely high-end graphics/video performance and we’re just not seeing it here. Likewise, the lack of a 1080p screen option is a bit disappointing when competitors are offing full HD screens on their 15-inch notebooks. I was also sad that HP didn’t give the 8560p a backlit keyboard or a three-button touchpad.

Again, if none of those quibbles stand out as major problems to you then the new EliteBook 8560p might be the best business notebook for your needs.

The 2560p provided great battery life during our standard life test. Our review notebook has a 6-cell 62Whr Li-ion battery, and users have the choice of adding the 9-cell 100Whr instead when customizing for even better battery life. During our tests we set the screen brightness down to 70%, turn the Wi-Fi on active (refreshing a web page every 60 seconds) and set to Windows 7 to the balanced power profile. The notebook stayed powered on for 7 hours and 45 minutes.

The HP EliteBook 2560p is a good choice for business professionals on the go. The second-generation Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor and 4GB of system memory makes multi-tasking a breeze and users will be able to do any amount of work tasks with the system. Another reason this notebook will be able to perform on the go is that it was able to provide 7 hours and 45 minutes of battery life.

The build quality is exceptional–HP’s DuraCase with a layered magnesium alloy chassis as a support structure will put users at ease when traveling. It’s the kind of build that will hold up for years; this notebook most likely won’t need any structural repairs for a very long time. You get what you pay for, though, and the $1400-1900 price point shows it. The 2560p also has a comfortable keyboard with great key travel and flow, but the touchpad is a little on the small side and prove to be an annoyance. Also on the downside, the system doesn’t have USB 3.0 for faster flash performance, and when the audio is raised to higher volume levels users will be able to feel the vibrations through the palmrests.

This 15.6-inch AMD-powered notebook is 8/10ths of an inch thin, weighs less than five pounds and gets almost eight hours of battery life. That’s mighty impressive … but read our review to find out what we don’t like.

It’s impossible to discuss HP’s Sleekbook family of thin-and-light laptops without mentioning the obvious comparison to ultrabooks. Without getting too caught up in marketing details, the term “ultrabook” applies to a specific category of thin-yet-powerful notebooks that follow a very specific set of technical guidelines from Intel regarding components, physical dimensions, battery life, as well as startup and system resume times. The HP Sleekbooks might clearly have some design similarities to ultrabooks, but they are not ultrabooks.

The HP ENVY Sleekbook 6z (also called the Sleekbook 6z-1000) with battery like HP ProBook 470 G3 Battery, HP 805047-251 Battery, HP 805047-851 Battery, HP HSTNN-Q95C Battery, HP 805294-001 Battery, HP 811063-421 Battery, HP ProBook 640 G2 Battery, HP ProBook 650 G2 Battery, HP 801517-831 Battery, HP 801554-001 Battery, HP CI03 Battery, HP HSTNN-PB6K Battery is one thin and light notebook; it’s about two-thirds the height and weight of a normal 15.6-inch notebook at just 0.78 inches and 4.75 lbs. Despite that, it’s still a 15.6-inch notebook and therefore its portability is limited. This notebook is more about form than function.

I measured an even seven hours, 30 minutes on the Sleekbook 6z’s standard battery. This is an excellent time for a 15.6-inch notebook and adds a lot of value to this model; it also kind of negates the fact that the battery cannot be removed. The battery life was measured during our standard battery rundown test (Windows 7 Balanced power profile, 70% screen brightness, wireless active and refreshing a web page every 60 seconds).

The HP ENVY Sleekbook 6z is ultimately hard to recommend for a few reasons. The first of which is the abysmal keyboard: it has a poor, cheap feel and is not encouraging to use. Adding to the productivity problem is the low 1366×768 screen resolution; it suffices for basic tasks, but power users will be wishing for more space.

On the upside the Sleekbook 6z has a great-looking design, decent speakers, a good selection of ports, and an excellent 7.5-hour battery life. Its low weight and thinness do little to hide the fact that it’s a 15.6-inch notebook though, so the portability is still limited.

At $599 the price is a little rich, but if you make the mistake of configuring it yourself and pay $650, the Sleekbook 6z isn’t a great value by any means. For that price I am more inclined to go with one of HP’s 15.6-inch Pavilion notebooks; they offer a better keyboard and better screen options plus user upgradeability. The only downside is a little extra weight and thickness.

The HP ENVY dv7t-7200 is a new Windows 8 laptop release that sports a 17.3-inch screen and comes in a wide variety configurations to suit almost any budget or performance needs. If the ENVY dv7t with battery such as HP 751875-001 Battery, HP 751681-421 Battery, HP 751681-231 Battery, HP Pavilion 11-N000SNX Battery, HP Pavilion 11 X360 Battery, HP X360 310 G1 Battery, HP HSTNN-DB7B Battery, HP HSTNN-PB6Q Battery, HP HSTNN-Q97C Battery, HP P3G16AA Battery, HP RI06 Battery, HP ProBook 450 G3 Battery looks strangely familiar, you’re right, it’s simply a rebranding of the 2012 Pavilion dv7t line but with the updated Windows 8 OS. HP is now placing the ENVY label on any laptop it deems as being a performance machine or having premium design. The company has also stopped producing the 15-inch ENVY 15 and 17-inch ENVY 17 models, citing the fact there was too much overlap between those machines and the equivalent dv6 and dv7.

Indeed change is afoot at HP, they recently lost their title as #1 PC manufacturer worldwide to Lenovo and so it’s new innovative releases like the ENVY 4 TouchSmart and flagship models like the ENVY dv7t — one of their best selling mainstream laptops, that will determine if they can recapture past glory. Read on to find out if the ENVY dv7t is a keeper or another reason to consider HP a zombie of its former self cranking out uninspired laptops.

The ENVY dv7t-7200 is a 17.3-inch screen 7lb notebook that’s squarely targeted at an audience looking for a desktop replacement style machine. With all the rage about Ultrabooks, you might be surprised to know the desktop replacement segment of 15 to 17-inch laptops is still the top selling category. The reason being that laptops like the ENVY dv7t offer a lot of nice features, excellent performance options and a price that comes in well under a lighter and sleeker looking but lesser powered Ultrabook. People still want their notebook to look decent, no matter what the size and usage intention, HP therefore has paid attention to making the ENVY dv7t’s looks appealing to a wide audience. The lid has a subtle brushed metal skin with a midnight black color finish that is contrasted with a silver trim around the edges. The HP logo on top is illuminated, this offers a pretty cool look, though it probably doesn’t generate the same techno-lust as an Apple logo does.

With the discontinuation of the ENVY 17 line, the ENVY dv7t-7200 is now at the top of performance charts for HP’s notebook lineup. The dv7t-7200 doesn’t quite have the design aesthetics or blow your mind performance capabilities we’d like it to have for a premier offering, but if you ignore that fact and focus more on the value proposition and features you get for the dollar the ENVY dv7t becomes quite appealing. If you take advantage of sale pricing and HP coupons you can often get the ENVY dv7t-7200 configured with an Intel Core i7, Nvidia 650M, full HD screen and 8GB of RAM for under $1,000. The precise configuration we have was found on sale last week for $599. Given that kind of pricing for a sturdily built laptop with top shelf components and the fact HP offers a 2-year standard warranty for this model, it’s an attractive deal.

Pricing aside, things we really like about the ENVY dv7t-7200 are its flexible configuration with powerful performance options, ease of upgrades after market, sturdy build quality, excellent speakers and audio quality, dual storage bays, and attractive black brush metal finish. Downsides to the ENVY dv7t include the annoying glossy screen bezel, stiff mouse buttons, lack of a touchscreen option to take advantage of Windows 8 and amount of bloatware installed out of the box. None of these complaints are showstoppers and are actually quite minimal, so don’t be deterred, on the whole the ENVY dv7t-7200 is a well featured laptop that stands out among 17-inch offerings as being a capable performer with lots of nice features and nice price to match.

The performance at a quick glance also looks alright with a quad-core processor and 750 gigabytes storage drive. Well, let’s not judge laptop by its covers but take it under closer examination to see what the HP is really made of!

As briefly noted above, HP Pavilion 15-d017cl comes with four core AMD A6-5200 CPU with 2GHz speed. For around 300 dollars laptop, such a processor is adequate choice. As it has 4 cores, also multitasking should not be a problem with that AMD.

4GB system memory is the most common amount these days, even in budget laptops. That’s fine for use at office or home and even gaming is possible with it. I couldn’t find the maximum memory amount for this HP, but I bet it’s at least 8GB in case you want to upgrade. However, there should be just one memory slot all in all, so you’d have to remove the old chip first in order to install more RAM.

The hard drive of HP Pavilion 15-d017cl is bigger than with most laptops in this price range. It offers nice 750GB storage which translates to space for movies in low hundreds (depending on quality) or mp3 songs in low hundreds of thousands. These numbers of course seem large, which they indeed are, but if you get into habit of downloading huge data from Internet, even 750GB will fill up quickly. But don’t worry, for simple home use such a storage is more than enough.

HP Pavilion 15-d017cl has 15.6 inches display and it doesn’t have touchscreen enabled. The resolution is typical 1366×768 which would just be too small for special cases like image/video editing. But once again, for a typical home user this 15.6″ display does its job well.

The AMD processor of HP Pavilion 15-d017cl integrates a graphics chip. It’s a true second-class graphics engine called AMD Radeon HD 8400, with not much performance to speak of. Gaming enthusiasts, take that as a hint to look for something else. All the others, you’ll be happy to know such graphics chip doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day use and can even run some older games if you turn game resolution and settings to low.

What do most of the budget HPs have common? They have 3 USB ports. Indeed, also HP Pavilion 15-d017cl sports 3 USB ports, one of them being USB 3.0. There are also HDMI and VGA ports which let you use this laptop with external display, such as bigger HDTV.

The laptop also features multi-format digital media card reader and front-facing webcam. And like most 15.6″ laptops, there’s a DVD burner installed for creating and reading discs (CD & DVD).

At least on Amazon, the HP Pavilion 15-d017cl is dubbed “certified refurbished”. So chances are somebody has used it in the past, although the vendor promises that the laptop shows limited or no wear and tear.

Operating system is Windows 8.1 64-bit edition. To use all of its new features, you’d have to use touchscreen (which this display is unfortunately not). However, using the laptop old-school style with keyboard and mouse is probably more convenient anyway.

Weight of HP Pavilion 15-d017cl is 5.5 pounds. While this is very subjective matter, in my opinion a notebook of this weight isn’t problem to carry. My old (and smaller display!) laptop weighs the same and I never ever thought it’s too heavy when I’m on the go.

On paper, HP Pavilion 15-d017cl doesn’t seem bad at all. It has capable specs for a budget laptop, and the fact it’s refurbished of course reflects on the price for the benefit of customer. However, many reviews from people who had used this laptop were telling negative things (bad trackpad etc.) about it. That’s why I’m hesitant to recommend this red HP to you, even though theoretically its price/performance ratio is good. If you want to play it safe, take a look at something else like this Dell. It costs more, but is indeed a new item and has a beefier processor and graphics than this HP.

At a quick glance, thanks to its sleek black design one might think the laptop looks more expensive than it actually is, but as they say you can’t judge a book by its covers. So lets see what kind of content this (note)book has…

The processor is Intel Celeron N2830 which runs on 2.4GHz clock rate and two cores & threads. It must be pointed out this CPU is very, very slow and will choke if you want to do advanced stuff on this computer. With that being said, and keeping in mind the low price of this laptop, you can still expect adequate performance for simpler stuff, like web browsing and video streaming.

There’s 4GB system memory installed on HP Black 15-f039wm. Even today, you can go far with that amount and only power users might realistically want more. There’s however just 1 memory slot in total so you can’t add more RAM even if you wanted to.

For storage, there’s the typical 500GB hard drive which can host, for example, movies in low hundreds depending on the quality. However it’s not a solid-state drive – something for which you’d need to pay more. Thus bootup times might be not on par with SSD notebooks but rumors are Windows 8.1 64-bit (that is pre-installed on this HP) starts up fast nonetheless.

The monitor is LED-backlit 15.6 inches screen. Don’t get too excited about the label HD in it – it surely is “high definition”, but only 1366×768 resolution one. Still, watching Full HD stuff is not a problem for this or any laptop that doesn’t directly support 1920×1080 quality. The Full HD content will still play on the monitor, however with slightly reduced quality.

Graphics of HP Black 15-f039wm are on the poorer side. The Intel HD Graphics 4000 isn’t known for its great performance with games. Year or two old titles with heavy graphics will most likely choke on this CPU/graphics chip. As such, a true gamer makes a very good decision getting something else than this HP. But one must also reflect the price on this – the laptop itself is very affordable and running some older games like Minecraft with reduced settings should work just fine with it.

The connections are typical for a budget laptop. You’ll find 3 USB ports on HP Black 15-f039wm, one being USB 2.0 and two are faster USB 3.0 ports. There’s also a HDMI out for connecting this laptop to a TV or other external monitor. Naturally, headphone and microphone jacks are both installed as well as SD card reader.

For network connectivity you can use both Ethernet and Wireless adapters. Minor disadvantage of the former is the speed: It’s not a Gigabit Ethernet but just the common 10/100Mbps one. However, this wont probably make any difference whatsoever with the real, outside Internet. In another words, for local networks there’s a difference in bandwidth but accessing the Internet should be all the same (unless you have faster than 100Mbps line).

The laptop weights 5.05lbs and has 4.5 hour battery life. Those are about average for laptops in this price category. Finding a power socket won’t be your highest priority with this HP, although during a full day at some point you’ll need to find one for sure.

While HP Black 15-f039wm has Windows 8.1 64-bit there are not many other programs pre-installed. For example, if you want Microsoft Office you must acquire it separately.

The keyboard is a non-backlit one and it has a 10-key numeric pad on right hand side. The system also has a DVD burner for reading and creating CDs & DVDs as well as webcam & mic for video sessions online.

HP Black 15-f039wm is very, very affordable laptop for anyone who’s not too much after big performance. It runs basic tasks like Office, browsing, email, Skype etc. very well. The problems only arise if you try to play latest games or do some heavy multitasking on it. The Celeron processor and the associated Intel HD graphics chip are not just up for those things and you’d end up growing grey hair. But don’t get discouraged – for your everyday use this HP should be well worth it. If you can grab it for a good price, I’d say do it.
